EXTENDED FAMILY SESSION IN LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN

THE LOCATION

The White’s family session in La Crosse, Wisconsin was super fun and went by in a flash! I selected a simple green backdrop along the Mississippi River for their photoshoot. I knew it would be simple and beautiful, but ultimately I wanted the family to really ‘pop’ off the backdrop. It can be super tempting to pick a busy backdrop, but trees and greenery is always my favorite. It showcased the family really well! The day was overcast and we were afraid we might get rained on. Luckily, the rain held off and we were able to capture some clean, even lit photos.  All of these photographs were taken within just a small area so that The Whites have to do a lot of walking or hiking. I like to keep family sessions super simple, especially those with little ones!

WHO THEY ARE

I am so happy when I get to photograph people I know! I grew up around the Whites because they are my best friend’s aunt uncle, and cousins. All three kids were involved in theater and pageants, and I always went to see them perform. In all honesty, I really looked up to Maria and Aaron, they were celebrities to childhood me. Anna was always tons of fun to be around as well. She’s got spunk!

Deb and Mark were celebrating a big anniversary and wanted to make sure to have their precious family all together. Their son Aaron was even able to fly in from Washington D.C.! Anniversaries are a great reason for updating your family portrait, don’t you think?

The family laughs a lot together and also helps each other look their best. I get a kick out of watching them interact – it reminds me so much of my own family. It was super sticky and hot out, but no one complained. They listened to my prompts and poses, and I was able to create a full collection for them in only 30 minutes!

WHAT THEY WORE

When I talked with Deb about outfits she mentioned the blue and yellow dress her granddaughter was wearing. They based the color palette around her, and it looked stunning. Subtle patterns and lots of solids blend so well together. The blues and yellows of the outfits also match the color scheme in Deb’s living room! She purchased a large family portrait and files to create a gallery wall. I’m so glad she thought that through when selecting outfits.

FINAL THOUGHTS

White family, it was so wonderful spending an evening with you. I know it’s hard to get your whole family together in one place.  It was an honor that you spent some of the time with me! I hope that your session added even more joy to the anniversary celebration. See you soon!
